SUMMARY
Michael-Wave is a game where you fight off “Waves” of enemies as a microwave named “Michael.”

This game concept was created in just 2 days for the GMTK game jam. The theme was “Countdown,” which we captured by having you use food powerups by microwaving them. You can only keep powerups for as long as their cook time is, but hanging onto them for longer gives you stronger, “cooked” powerups.

For example, microwaving the egg gives you an explosion attack. Once the countdown reaches 15 seconds left, the egg catches on fire and your explosion gets bigger and more powerful.
My role was primarily creating the game assets, UI, and designing enemy and player attacks. Here’s some of the early concept art as we were ideating.
And here are some of the assets created for the game! The premise is that you’re fighting a bunch of smart appliances, so all the enemies are designed to look like they’re from the same product line.
I’m quite happy with how the game turned out on such a short timeline, and the experience was a great exercise in iterating quickly and embracing imperfection.

Feel free to give it a play!

Thanks for stopping by!
